Kevin James: Tunnel Vision on "Illegal Immigration Invasion"

Kevin James did not like Chief of Police Bill Bratton, but it’s not because he was a bad chief. Bratton’s policies, such as bringing COMPSTAT to Los Angeles, allowed police to more effectively deploy resources. KPCC did a profile piece of Bratton’s legacy, saying how he brought compassion back to the streets through officers, and how he didn’t set up his commanders for failure. (KPCC, October 29, 2009)

Kevin James doesn’t like him because he would not storm the City flushing out illegal immigration. He was more focused on espousing Walter Moore’s positions on illegal immigration. James was a well known booster at the time:

Let me remind you of something. You mentioned the name Walter Moore, and thanks for your call. The first person Walter Moore said he would go after to try to recruit to be the Chief of Police in Los Angeles is Sheriff Joe Arpaio. (Kevin James Show, September 22, 2008, Segment 4)

Republicans Can Agree on Bratton, Why Can’t Kevin James?
Bill Bratton’s name is currently being floated for chairman of the Department of Homeland Security not by Democrats, but by Representative Mike McCaul, a conservative, Texas Republican.

"I think any three of those coming in would gain much respect from House Republicans and could help us at a time when we're really trying to push this border security measure out of the House of Representatives," the Republican congressman from Texas said on "Fox News Sunday." (POLITICO, July 14, 2013)

Kevin James: Bratton should be Replaced by Someone Like Joe Arpaio
On his radio show, when Kevin James was playing a booster role for right-winger Walter Moore’s mayoral bid, he went on his show and made it clear he was no fan of Bratton. He called him “the mayor’s puppet,” referring to Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. He continue to play booster for Moore while gleefully explaining what Sheriff Joe Arpaio does in Arizona to halt the “illegal alien invasion:”

Let me remind you of something. You mentioned the name Walter Moore, and thanks for your call. The first person Walter Moore said he would go after to try to recruit to be the Chief of Police in Los Angeles is Sheriff Joe Arpaio. So if you want to compare a Walter Moore administration compared to a Villaraigosa administration, on just the illegal alien invasion, well, Villaraigosa would certainly keep Bratton.

So there’s that. That’s the Villaraigosa administration position. If you don’t like the fact that the LAPD refuses to enforce laws against illegal aliens while they do enforce them against you. If you don’t like that you can leave the state. That’s the Villaraigosa administration’s attitude towards illegal aliens. That of course is the open border policy, illegal aliens over Americans. Then there is of course the Walter Moore administration policy. Because you know what Sheriff Joe Arpaio would do. He’s the one that’s famous of course, for making the illegal aliens apprehended in Phoenix eat baloney sandwiches in the tent city outside the desert and wear pink outfits. Is it pink underwear?  I can’t remember, it’s one of those. But you know you’ve got the best, his record, by far in the illegal alien invasion, is Maricopa County, Arizona has made him famous. So you can compare and contrast on your own. And if you happen to be interested in a Walter Moore candidacy as he challenges Antonio Villaraigosa, it’s waltermooreformayor.com. (Kevin James Show, September 22, 2008, Segment 4)

Kevin James completely ignores any positive effects Bratton had on the City, focusing solely on his alarmist illegal immigration rant that was offensive. Mayor Garcetti campaigned on how much crime had fallen in his district while he was running for mayor.

Does Kevin James represent the kind of Los Angeles we want to live in?
