The Fallacy of Kevin James

When is the last time you have heard of someone taking back years of rhetoric based on attending a few workshops? Especially when that rhetoric is visceral and tinged with hatred? Kevin James thinks that attending a few workshops from NALEO would absolve him of every despicable comment he has ever said toward the immigrant community.

This is one of the greatest flip-flops since Mitt Romney changed his mind on a woman’s right to choose. Mitt Romney was pro-choice when he ran for governor in liberal Massachusetts but astonishingly became anti-choice when he ran for president to gain the support of the Conservative crowd. You can read all about it in this fascinating Slate article. Or if you watch The Newsroom. They covered it last night as well.

So how convenient is it when Kevin James, the Rush Limbaugh wannabe, does a complete 180 when he decides to run for mayor of Los Angeles, and then be appointed to the only paid commission in the City?

The list of comments James has said is staggering, and there is more than what I’ve covered. Should we forgive all of these comments during a 7+ year career just because you’ve attended a few workshops, Mr. James? Why doesn’t NALEO have on their website or send a press release your conversion to the plight of the immigrant? That’s because there was no conversion. It calls to mind the centers that said they could change a gay kid into a straight kid. It just doesn’t happen.

What Kevin James has done is try to whitewash the years of inflammatory rhetoric by attending a few workshops. A leopard doesn't change its spots and a zebra can't change its stripes. I don’t buy it and neither should Los Angeles.

Advocated for 700-Mile Wall, not Fence
But McCain, as the second-highest ranking minority member of the Senate Commerce Committee, is in a position to link the funding and progress of other politician’s cherished projects with real support for a REAL fence. [Note: I would prefer a wall]. (Town Hall, March 6, 2008)

For Enforcement First Platform
But, since platforms are a part of our political tradition, McCain should demand that an enforcement-first approach to border control/security be a principal theme of the platform. Border security should be the first issue addressed in the body of the text. In fact, the subject fits squarely under an important title every American understands: “National Security.” (Town Hall, March 6, 2008)

Called Special Order 40 a “Shield for Illegal Aliens and their Lobby”
“It has been used as a political shield, a political tool for the illegal alien supporters and their lobby to hide behind. To just as you described, protect the criminals from law enforcement.” (YouTube Clip)

Path to Citizenship is Crap
On his radio, he called the path to citizenship, “crap” and “a lie” and the only way to become a citizen of the United States is to “come here legally.” (Kevin James Show, 12-15-09 Hour 3 Seg 2)

James Wants Arpaio as Police Chief
Let me remind you of something. You mentioned the name Walter Moore, and thanks for your call. The first person Walter Moore said he would go after to try to recruit to be the Chief of Police in Los Angeles is Sheriff Joe Arpaio. So if you want to compare a Walter Moore administration compared to a Villaraigosa administration, on just the illegal alien invasion, well, Villaraigosa would certainly keep Bratton.

So there’s that. That’s the Villaraigosa administration position. If you don’t like the fact that the LAPD refuses to enforce laws against illegal aliens while they do enforce them against you. If you don’t like that you can leave the state. That’s the Villaraigosa administration’s attitude towards illegal aliens. That of course is the open border policy, illegal aliens over Americans. Then there is of course the Walter Moore administration policy. Because you know what Sheriff Joe Arpaio would do. He’s the one that’s famous of course, for making the illegal aliens apprehended in Phoenix eat baloney sandwiches in the tent city outside the desert and wear pink outfits. Is it pink underwear?  I can’t remember, it’s one of those. But you know you’ve got the best, his record, by far in the illegal alien invasion, is Maricopa County, Arizona has made him famous. So you can compare and contrast on your own. And if you happen to be interested in a Walter Moore candidacy as he challenges Antonio Villaraigosa, it’s waltermooreformayor.com. (Kevin James Show, September 22, 2008, Segment 4)

Protesters Are Illegal Thug Aliens
On the air, after the brutal Mayday Melee rally in MacArthur Park, Kevin James callously called the victims of police brutality, “illegal thug aliens.” (Kevin James Show, 09-22-08 Hour 2 Seg 1)

Praised Bill Supporting English Only Workplace and Mocks DREAM Benefits
“The best shot we have received in the past two years was in March 2006 when more than 500,000 illegal aliens and/or illegal alien supporters marched through the streets of Los Angeles carrying flags of other nations, yelling chants in other languages, and demanding that the American people provide immediate amnesty (complete with all of the taxpayer-funded benefits they could DREAM up). Since then, Congress attempted amnesty (twice), and New York Governor Eliot Spitzer attempted to provide driver’s licenses to illegal aliens in his State – and darn near turned the Hillary Clinton campaign upside down in the process!

Not to be outdone by Spitzer, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-North Korea) succeeded (at least temporarily) in keeping life difficult for employers, particularly small businesses. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN) had drafted a short but sweet amendment to a budget bill which would have prohibited the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) -- the federal government’s civil rights watchdog – from using funds appropriated by the bill to finance lawsuits against businesses which require employees to speak English on the job.” (Town Hall, December 7, 2007)
